The Thames Path Virtual Challenge

The Thames is England’s longest and greatest river with its source deep in the hills of Gloucestershire and heading through many historic towns on its way to the Capital and then beyond to the sea.

For the past 8 years – our annual ‘Thames Path Challenge’ has seen thousands of adventurers take on sections of the iconic trail.

As we have gone 'virtual' for 2020 there is even more choice!

Choose a challenge to take on during September - we have four distances available:

50km Runnymede to Henley Challenge

It’s the same route as the popular 2nd Half of our annual ‘Thames Path Challenge’. Setting out from Runneymede (of Magna Carta fame) and meandering through Windsor, Eton, Maidenhead and Marlow en route to the finish in Henley.

100km Putney to Henley Challenge

This is our annual ‘Thames Path Challenge’ route – and over 15,000 have completed it over the past 8 years, with times as low as 8 hours for fast runners, many walkers achieving sub 24 hrs, and 34 hours or so for those taking it easy!

294km Full River Challenge

This the official full ‘Thames Path National Trail’ – starting from the Thames Barrier near Woolwich (which keeps the sea out of the Capital) – all the way to the river’s source – Thames Head – in the Gloucestershire hills.

375km Sea to Source Challenge

If you want to really push yourself further – take on the extra section of the ‘nearly completed’ new section of the Thames Path! This starts right out at the tip of the Estuary on the Isle of Grain where it will join up with the new Coastal Path.

Logging Your Walks, Hikes and Runs

All your walks, runs and hikes count towards your total and you can simply add them by hand as you go or alternatively, if you have Strava, link your account to your UltraBritain profile and we will collect your activities automatically.

Linking Strava
It's a simple process to connect your Strava account - we need read-only permission (we never write anything to your page) and only for your public activities.

  • Log in to Strava
  • Click the Orange 'Connect With Strava' button on this event page
  • Approve the connection when Strava prompts you
  • That's it!

Logging miles by hand
If you don't have Strava and don't want to create an account, no problem!

To log your miles by hand, simply ensure you are logged into Ultra Britain
  • When you are logged in to your UltraBritain account you'll see a 'your activities' button which lets you add/remove manual miles
  • Click the 'your activities' button and you'll see a pop-up window with your runs and walks to date (if any)
  • Click the 'Add Manual Activity' button, pick the date and distance you covered and click the log activity button (do this for each activity you want to add)

We'll show you where you've reached along the trail as well all your fellow participants on this page with results refreshed regularly.
