Hostage International’s Beirut & Back - Challenge for All!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of our co-founder Terry Waite’s release from captivity in Beirut where he was held hostage for nearly five years.

Please join us to contribute towards covering 5700 miles (9173km) the distance from Terry’s home in Suffolk to Beirut - and back, and in the process raise funds to help people affected by the traumatic experience of hostage-taking.

From Saturday 4th to Sunday 12th September 2021 we’re encouraging as many people as possible across the globe to mark Terry’s anniversary year by walking, running, cycling, spinning, swimming, or take part in your wheelchair, or some people may want to use their rollerblades.

We’re hoping people of all ages and abilities will help us clock up the miles and together raise essential funds to provide practical and emotional support to those whose lives have been affected by a loved one being taken hostage, or hostages after they are released.

Our social media feeds will provide regular updates of the miles covered and monies raised as we drive towards our target of 5700 miles (9173km).  This is the first time Hostage International has held such a fundraising event, so you never know, could we go the distance twice?!

How can you get involved?

Hostage International is asking you to give a registration fee to help fund our unique work, or if you prefer you can also start a fundraising page on JustGiving and raise as much as you can.

Registration is £15 per adult, £10 for children under 18, and £25 for families*. 

Beirut & Back - Challenge for All!

If you are cycling outside, please follow the Highway Code.
If you are walking running or rollerblading please follow rights of way.
If you are swimming please swim safely. 
You are fully responsible for your own safety.

Please check the latest Government Advice in relation to Coronavirus and what that may mean to exercising in groups - you are responsible for adhering to this advice.

We will not authorise any refunds or transfers to other challenge events if you are unable to participate.

You are responsible for submitting your miles either via the Strava link provided or by submitting your miles manually via UltraBritain.

Your personal data will be stored by Hostage International according to our Privacy Policy.
